Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) has been working to provide safe drinking water in Nigeria since 1996 in partnership with government agencies, private donors and the communities themselves. With a presence across 21 states, TCF partners with:

  • Federal Ministry of Water Resources
  • Cross River State Government
  • Kebbi State Government
  • Vitol Charitable Foundation
  • Sai-Indo Nigeria Foundation
  • Wherever The Need (WTN) UK
  • TY Danjuma Foundation, Nigeria

These handpump bore wells (HPBWs) serve over 1,538,000 Nigerians with potable water from sources that are easy and affordable to maintain.

TCF’s Water Programme is focused on the concept of Village Level Operation and Maintenance (VLOM) by:

  • Forming Water Sanitation Hygiene Committees (WASHCOMs) for each rehabilitated hand pump
  • Skill development and training of two people from the community, who are called Local Area Mechanics (LAMs), in hand pump installation, repair, maintenance in each of participating LGAs
  • Capacity building of WASHCOMs on preventive maintenance and management of their water sources
  • Connecting them to a local supply chain for high quality, reasonably priced, fast moving hand pump spare-parts
